[Bug 1306977] [NEW] Ubuntu 14.04 amd64 beta2 install fails with "[Errno 5] Input/output error" (full disk install from USB drive)

Public bug reported:

I tried installing from two different USB sticks on two different
computers, multiple times, and all hardware has been tested to work, so
this is probably not a real disk error. The same error condition happens
every time, towards the end of the setup process.

The installed Ubuntu does not boot.

I used Startup Disk Creator on Ubuntu 12.04 to write the image.

This seems similar to bug #1252205.
