Please retest with the most recent daily image from saucy:
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/saucy-desktop-amd64.iso

There is a new version of the shim package in saucy which has been
reported to address similar issues on other ASUS machines. (i.e., bug
#1187233)

** Changed in: shim (Ubuntu)
       Status: Confirmed => Incomplete

Title:
Blank screen when booting from installation DVD

Status in “shim” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  I recently got a new laptop (ASUS N56VB) with Windows8 pre-installed.
I followed the guide available at
  https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UEFI (i.e., disabling FastBoot).
With SecureBoot still enabled, the 64bit DVD started fine, presenting
me with a GRUB-like screen. When choosing "Try Ubuntu", the screen
went blank. No error message, no warning, nothing. After disabling
SecureBoot, I got the message "Secure boot disabled", but "Try Ubuntu"
  worked as expected.

BTW: I even tried gfxmode=text, in case it was a problem with the
video mode, but to no avail.
