Title:
Installer crashes should be signalled to the user

Status in “ubiquity” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: ubiquity

If the installer crashes, the user receives no feedback about this at
all. There should at least be a dialog box telling the user that
something went wrong. Ideally, this message would also tell the user
to save /var/log/syslog somewhere outside the life system, so that the
user can submit a decent bug report about this.

Note that bug #217593 describes a related problem, but here I am
talking about the case when the installer is started using the desktop
  icon on the live system.
