How does this cause a problem? It is an internal variable name so any
C++ modules linking to the library won't know or care about it.

Title:
libmount 2.20 uses C++ "new" keyword
Status in “util-linux” package in Ubuntu:
Incomplete
Bug description:
libmount uses "new" in one of mnt_diff_tables parameters. This fatally
confuses a compilation when the library is used in C++.
The issue has been fixed upstream in version 2.21
