@18: changing /bin/sh to /bin/bash in /usr/bin/linux-boot-prober did not
resolve this issue for me (Ubuntu 12.04.3).

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: grub2

  I just went with a system update yesterday for Natty Beta 1, and grub2
  upon "sudo update-grub" generates duplicate entries in the menu.

  Here are certain diagnostic outputs:
