Public bug reported:
Hi,
I have a Latitude E5530 laptop.
Using Ubuntu 11.10 to 13.10 worked almost seemlessly until now (few
problems with wifi/gfx cards and ALPS trackpad, but moving to FOSS
drivers & synclient solved them).
Since my last update (using "Update Indicator" applet), the computer now
boots directly to Ubuntu, showing directly the completely purple screen
(in which pressing any key does nothing...), but not showing the menu
with alternative OSes.
I've done a lot of things, but with not solution to this day:
- Change the TIMEOUT vars in /etc/defults/grub
- Asked synaptic to re-install the grub(2)-related packages
- Asked synaptic to remove the packages, then install them again
- Asked synaptic to completely remove the packages, then install them again
- Asked synaptic to completely remove the packages, then remove any remaining *grub* file/directory in /etc & /boot, then install the packages again
Very seldomly, the menu appears, but I've not managed to determine under
which conditions...
** Affects: grub2 (Ubuntu)
Importance: Undecided
Status: New
