Hi Brian: I installed lotus notes by running ibm's provided deb file.
In this case it was lotus notes 9 social edition. It installed and ran
fine. The upgrade just didn't like the state of grep:i386...

Regards,

Fred Schnittke

An error to calculate the upgrade can happen for a lot of different
reasons, in this particular case it was due to the xorg packages from a
PPA.  How did you install Lotus Notes?  I'm looking another bug similar
to your issue with grep:i386 (bug 1241070) but I don't see a record of
their having installed Lotus Notes.  Thanks!
