I have a related problem. Ubuntu won't automatically switch time zones,
although the option is selected in the "time & date" settings.

Ubuntu 12.04 as well.

Bug description:
  This is an install test of Ubuntu DVD 12.04 amd 64 on a Oracle VBox
  VM.  I'm running 64bit Precise on a 64bit VM.

  When the timezone selection opens up after installation begins, my
  time zone is not automatically selected as it has been in previous
  version. Its showing some different location.
