Here's my locale setting:

This is the package I use:
Package: update-notifier
Priority: optional
Section: gnome
Installed-Size: 324

When I add this particular repository:  ppa:jon-severinsson/ffmpeg
update-notifier will hang at the last moment and continues to spin @100% CPU time.

strace & ltrace both gives no output of the attached process.

If I remove this repository update-manager will run to finish.  It does
not affect apt-get update, or synaptic package manager.

This is on Ubuntu Lucid 10.04 LTS

with kernel changed to

Linux  2.6.38-16-generic #67~lucid1-Ubuntu SMP
