Title:
Software sources shouldn't provide proposed repositories
Status in “software-properties” package in Ubuntu:
Invalid
Bug description:
Like the title says, enabling them is made too easy for basic users.
Most use cases, basic users has no use for updates provided through proposed.
Since many new users (and many experienced users as well) don't know what is provided through proposed
Info provided by https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuUpdates isn't enough to "scare" users.
"Enabling the proposed updates repository can break your system. It is not recommended for inexperienced users."
Since experienced users can find a way to enable them, that doesn't mean that everyone should be able to do so by few clicks.
Maybe just a entry commented out in /etc/apt/sources.list ?
But no visible menu entry in software sources ?
Direction ubuntu is trying to achieve by minimizing time to spend on "hacking" system to make it work.
Is this a opportunity to make a small improvement?
At least many posts made in Finnish local Ubuntu-forums, problems are traced back to proposed packages.
I'll suspect this is a case in all local Ubuntu-forums? But for this reason alone, enabling them shouldn't be made so easy.
Problems caused by proposed repositories, isn't good advertising to anyone.
Most times users weren't aware of chance that system might go haywire.
