Title:
Error message for LILO failures is bad

Status in “lilo-installer” package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
I just did a install of the preview of breezy and I choose to use XFS for the
root. It went fine until it tried to install the boot loader. It needed to use
LILO (GRUB doesn't support XFS I guess) and I wanted it to install in the
partition boot record and it failed with a read screen saying "Running
"/sbin/lilo" failed with error code "1"."

I discovered that lilo complains "Filesystem would be destroyed by LILO boot
sector: /dev/hda7." But this error message was not passed through to the "GUI".

The GUI should also probably say something like: "Try a different bootloader or
root filesystem or bootloader location. (eg. EXT3 works well with grub installed
in the master boot record.)" So that people who do not understand the problem
can get it to work on a second try.
