Public bug reported:

I was reinstalling the ttf-mscorefonts-installer. Since the proprietary
Nvidia driver 304 I'm using is still not working perfectly, my video
suddenly went black, and the OS stopped working (I esperiencedseveral
times this problem in Ubuntu 12.10). Then I was forced to reboot
physically my Vaio and when I tried to remove the package, I got the
following error message (in Italian):

dpkg: errore nell'elaborare ttf-mscorefonts-installer (--purge):
 Il pacchetto si trova in uno stato di inconsistenza grave - è
 necessario reinstallarlo prima di rimuoverlo.
Si sono verificati degli errori nell'elaborazione:
 ttf-mscorefonts-installer
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

Bug description:
  I was reinstalling the ttf-mscorefonts-installer. Since the
