Is it a huge coincidence that my system has encountered the exact same
behavior (including the same "bad" checksum) this morning when I
attempted to update?

  has a corrupted checksum

Status in “dpkg” package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
  On a Ubuntu 12.04 x86_64 I try to install ia32-libs:

ia32-libs is already the newest version.
You might want to run 'apt-get -f install' to correct these:
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
libcurl3:i386 : Depends: libldap-2.4-2:i386 (>= 2.4.7) but it is not going to be installed
E: Unmet dependencies. Try 'apt-get -f install' with no packages (or specify a solution).
