Your Ubuntu version is EOL on the desktop. Is this still an issue for
you?

Title:
Installer hangs when trying to modify a configured encrypted partition

Status in “partman-crypto” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: partman-crypto

go to manual partitioning, set a partition to encryption, and go to
configure it. I've used a passphrase (don't know if not choosing it
will trigger the bug). When I'm done, if I go to that encrypted
partition again, e.g. to change it to LVM or to not use encryption, a
dialog appears saying I can't change a configured encrypted partition,
offering "go back" and "continue" (which AIUI should do the same, and
go back, so there should just be one dialog). Going to continue works
fine, but going to "go back" will hang the installer.

  This is reproducible.

Using the ubuntu-8.04-alternate-i386 installer on a HP Pavilion dv1000
  laptop
