Hmmm.... The problem seems to be that this package ships a desktop file
for matlab, causing Software Center to present it as such. Opening at
task for app-install-data-ubuntu as IIRC, such things can be manually
overridden there.

** Also affects: app-install-data-ubuntu (Ubuntu)
   Importance: Undecided
       Status: New

** Changed in: matlab-support (Ubuntu)
       Status: Confirmed => Triaged

Title:
  Description of matlab-support is misleading

Status in “app-install-data-ubuntu” package in Ubuntu:
  New
Status in “matlab-support” package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
In the Ubuntu Software Center, the package matlab-support is listed as "MATLAB - Scientific computing environment".
This name implies that the package installs matlab itself.

However, only when you read the extended description of the package
will one discover the text "This package does not provide MATLAB.
Instead, it configures an existing MATLAB installation to integrate
more comfortably in a Debian installation."

This would be a minor inconvenience of not for bug 1025648, which makes it virtually impossible to cancel installation without somehow obtaining a copy of matlab.
Bug 1025648 needs to be fixed, but in the meantime maybe it's a good idea to rename this package to, for instance, "Support files for Matlab".
