[Bug 1140414] Re: GRUB needing to be continuously reinstalled

I uninstalled the program which supposedly manages the cache features.
The drive is also formatted into ext4 and is not visible unless you go
into Device Manager. I am not sure how to be more sure windows is not
interacting with the drive. I have also noticed that when I am unable
to boot GRUB from the cache drive I am also unable to boot GRUB from my
USB stick Ubuntu 12.10 install.

sudo dmraid -s -> "no raid disks"

I have just reinstalled GRUB again and will run that script if/when the
problem happens again.

Title:
GRUB needing to be continuously reinstalled

Status in “grub2” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  I have a Lenovo T430s laptop with a dual Windows/Ubuntu Install.

Windows 7 Pro 64bit is installed on the laptop's main hard drive
  (default from the manufacturer)

  I also have Ubuntu 12.10 64bit installed on the laptop's internal 16
gb cache drive. The original function was to be a cache drive for
windows but since Lenovo did not set it up properly I decided to try
running an Ubuntu install off of it (works wonderfully, when I can get
it to boot!). This drive is a select-able boot option when choosing a
device to boot from before the computer starts up.

The problem: I have had to reinstall GRUB on the drive multiple times
using an Ubuntu Install DVD (with boot repair). Seemingly at random
intervals GRUB will not launch when I select the bootable cache drive
and I need to reinstall it with the DVD, then it will work fine for
several boots until GRUB dissapears again. I have only been
installing GRUB on the drive with Ubuntu on it as I like the ability
to turn the laptop on and have it automatically boot into Windows
without launching GRUB. If installing GRUB on the main drive is the
only solution then I will do that but I am wondering if there is
  another problem happening here.

  Thanks for the help
