It looks like the drive was failing. If you still have this system,
please check its SMART status in the disk utility.

Bug description:
Binary package hint: util-linux
This is in intrepid. I have a 160 GB NTFS HDD. It has some issues, but
if I try to mount it or even use fdisk -l to see the contents it
hangs.
Btw this is how the hard disk is laid out
Disk /dev/sdb: 160.0 GB, 160041885696 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 19457 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes
Disk identifier: 0x48254824
Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/sdb1 * 1 1912 15358108+ 7 HPFS/NTFS
/dev/sdb2 1913 19457 140930212+ f W95 Ext'd (LBA)

/dev/sdb9 18597 19457 6915951 7 HPFS/NTFS
This info. was got by doing fdisk -l /dev/sdb if I give only fdisk -l
it hangs the system. Please lemme know if I can help in any way (any
more information needed)
The bootloader is corrupted of the hard disk.
