Public bug reported:

Just observed update-manager using 100% CPU for several minutes after
startup, and consuming 7.4% of available memory (out of 8 GB total =~
almost 600 MB). The CPU use calmed down after a couple minutes, but it's
still using 7.4% of the memory.

To start:

$ gksudo update-manager &

`top` output while peaking:

1 PID USER PR NI VIRT RES SHR S %CPU %MEM TIME+ COMMAND
 28206 root 20 0 978m 423m 52m R 100 5.4 1:18.95 update-manager

`top` output after running about 10 minutes:

1 PID USER PR NI VIRT RES SHR S %CPU %MEM TIME+ COMMAND
 28206 root 20 0 1139m 583m 52m S 2 7.4 2:22.43 update-manager

`ps afux` output:

username 26684 0.0 0.0 31140 6760 pts/1 Ss+ 08:49 0:00 \_ bash
username 28199 0.1 0.0 165468 7012 pts/1 S 09:36 0:00 | \_ gksudo update-manager
root 28205 0.0 0.0 79736 2408 ? Ss 09:36 0:00 | \_ /usr/bin/sudo -H -S -p GNOME_SUDO_PASS -u root -- update-manager
root 28206 27.0 7.3 1166500 597712 ? Sl 09:36 2:22 | \_ /usr/bin/python /usr/bin/update-manager

Just tried again, and it was not completely reproducible. `top` output
after the CPU use calmed down:

1 PID USER PR NI VIRT RES SHR S %CPU %MEM TIME+ COMMAND
 29591 root 20 0 785m 228m 52m S 5 2.9 0:23.64 update-manager
