My fontconfig packages got updated to 2.10.93-0ubuntu1~raring1, the
problem seems to be gone for now.

Bug description:
  Today (2013-05-21) I updated two PCs with Raring Ringtail. I use
  terminus font for my terminal, but after restarting, some different
  ugly font was showing up instead of Terminus on both computers.

  I have terminus package installed:

  ubuntu :: ~ » dpkg -l | grep terminus
  ii  xfonts-terminus                           4.35-1                                            all          Fixed-width fonts for fast reading

  It may have something to do with the fact, that terminus is a raster
  font.
