You get this error with any URI, or only some specific ones?  Please
give an example of a failing URI.

What is the output of running this command in a terminal:
$ sudo apturl apt:tf

Bug description:
  When using apturl from firefox to add an apt link, an error comes up
  saying software index is broken, however it is not, as it updates and
  works fine without errors.
