Title:
  Grub fails to launch a Natty system installed on an external usb HD
  drive when connected to a Dell Vostro 3700 Laptop

Bug description:
  I have a Ubuntu Natty system installed on an external usb drive (replacing a previous Maverick distribution).
  I have a laptop Dell Vostro 3700 with Windows 7 on the internal disk.
  Booting on the external drive does not work when plugged on a usb port of the Dell Vostro : the grub menu is not displayed.
  However,
  1°) Dell's BIOS is configured to boot on the usb drive. The usb drive is recognized by BIOS.

  2°) The Natty system boots perfectly when plugged on the usb port of
  another computer.

  3°) The same external drive did perfectly work on the same laptop with
  a Maverick distribution installed.

  4°) The Natty distribution works well on the same laptop when
  replacing the current packages grub-common and grub-pc with grub-
  common_1.98+20100804-5ubuntu3_i386.deb and grub-
  pc_1.98+20100804-5ubuntu3_i386.deb respectively.

  5°) The problem seems to be related to the following, found on https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MaverickMeerkat :
  "In dual boot installs, after using Windows applications that use the FlexNet Publisher, as a license manager, such software will overwrite GRUB, effectively breaking the boot process. This has been fixed for applications including Adobe Photoshop (CS4), Dell Datasafe backup, Autocad 2009,Adobe Flash Builder 4,UtraISO. If you have this problem with a new application, see the bug report to add its signature to prevent future problems (441941)"
