The bug I was reporting is actually specific to the Lubuntu LiveCD. I
filed bug 1201101. This one can probably be closed, either because the
original report affects no longer supported releases, or because it is
fixed in subsequent releases. I was able to install Kubuntu and Xubuntu
from their respective LiveCD, although I had to fix the EFI partition
after that, probably because of a quirk in the BIOS of my SONY Vaio Pro
13. Assuming the EFI partition is in /dev/sda1, this is what I had to
do:
sudo su
mount /dev/sda1 /mnt
cd /mnt/EFI
cp -a ubuntu Boot
cd Boot
mv grubx64.efi bootx64.efi
