Title:
Installation of Kubuntu 13.04 from CD fails (ubiquity / partman error
  141)

Status in “ubiquity” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
I'm installing Kubuntu 13.04 on an HP ENVY h8 system with UEFI and an existing Windows 8 partition.
When attempting to install, before being able to see the partitioning choices, I receive a "ubi-partman failed with exit code 141.

Is ubi-partman not able to handle GPT partition tables?

  Similar failure attempts:
  * Booting in UEFI mode from DVD with the original drive attached and no other. Drive partitioned straight from mfg.
  * Booting in Legacy mode from DVD with the original drive attached and no other. Drive partitioned straight from mfg.
  * Booting in UEFI mode from DVD with the original drive attached and no other. NTFS drive resized with ntfsresize and gparted
  * Booting in Legacy mode from DVD with the original drive attached and no other. NTFS drive resized with ntfsresize and gparted and an ext3/4 partition created all ready to go...

  Successes:
  * If I have a USB Thumbdrive inserted, that shows up as a target (the main drive does not show up in partman)
  * If I installed a second drive without Windows (I disconnected the old drive first, but perhaps did not need to)
These efforts both completed a successful and usable installation.

It seems that ubi-partman cannot handle GUID Partition Tables (GPT) or
Windows 8 installations. Booting in legacy mode doesn't seem to make
a difference. If the drive has Windows 8/UEFI/GPT on it, ubi-partman
does not know what to do with it.

I will include some logs from one of the failed efforts.

This could be a duplicate of 354515 and/or 1179086 (or others) but because the information is inconclusive and many of the apparent matches have been resolved.
