Public bug reported:

This issue is tracked in http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-
bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=626292

Unfortunately, the fix has not been backported to Ubuntu 10.04 lTS or
Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, both of which have versions of hostname < 3.08

Symptoms look like:

hostname --fqdn
hostname: No address associated with the name

This can break various software pieces that use hostname --fqdn for
information.

** Affects: hostname (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
