Title:
[Lucid] d-i installer gives useless error messages when package
  install fails

Status in “debian-installer” package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
Did a d-i installation of Lucid Beta 2 from the AMD64 DVD. I was
installing to a VM, so I kinda expected some sort of failure with my
package selection, however the error message given was just about
  useless.

I chose defaults for everything, but when I got to package selection,
in addition to the default Ubuntu Desktop group, I also chose
  Virtualization Host...

I really didn't expect that to go so well, but I wanted to try.

However, when the failure occurred (I'm assuming it happened because I
was trying to install virt inside a VM (though in theory there's no
reason that SHOULDN'T at least work somewhat)) the only message I got
  was:

  Package Installation failed.
  <continue>

With no explanation for what failed or why it failed. Nothing.

I looked in syslog briefly, but didn't see anything that really stood
out as a glaring failure during package installation.

So, this is probably more a wishlist item at this point, but it would
be nice if error messags in d-i were a little more verbose (or at
  least this error message).
