I downloaded the 12.10 minimal cd and the debian installer located the
missing hard drive. Still a problem in ubiquity.

Title:
ubiquity does not see hard drive

Status in “ubiquity” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
When trying to install with the 12.10 live cd, ubiquity doesn't give
me the option to choose my /dev/sda hard drive but it does provide an
option ot install the boot loader on /dev/sda.

This computer has had ubuntu installed on it many times. However, this
is the first time using ubiquity. I have always used the alternate cd
  (with the debian installer).
