Martin: diverging in this case is the right thing to do. We are working
hard on improving cross-building support in Ubuntu (with an extensive
set of patches in the Debian BTS), and do not wish to be impeded by the
Debian freeze, nor is it necessary for the Debian freeze to impede us.
It will be trivial to bring ed back into sync later once you are able to
upload the M-A field change to Debian.
