Title:
In 12.04, plymouth is started far too late
Status in “plymouth” package in Ubuntu:
New
Bug description:
Steps:
1. Install Xubuntu 12.04 to an AMD APU laptop (E-350, E-450...). Whether 12.04 or one with all updates applied does not matter, bug is there in all cases.
2. Watch as the boot has 20s of black screen, 1s of plymouth
I have so far seen this on three different laptops, from different manufacturers. All had an AMD APU in common. All use the open source radeon KMS.
The issue is that the boot shows a black screen for the first 20
seconds, and the plymouth animation is only shown for 0.5-1 seconds
before lightdm kicks in. It'd be much nicer to the user if these
timings were the other way around - if plymouth was started earlier.
I no longer have any of the laptops available, as all were made for
clients.
