It appears the series name doesn't affect the hostname, and if this is
intended, this would not be a bug.. We need confirmation. I was able to
change the machine name of both the oem and user installations during
the install. The defaults could be changed and were respected once set.
However, if I changed the default during oem installation, I got no
default machine name during user installation. This might be a separate
bug.

Title:
Ubuntu raring oem install series name is ignored
Status in “ubiquity” package in Ubuntu:
Confirmed
Bug description:
At the start of the raring oem install the "series name" you enter
doesn't change the machine name, eg. if it make QATeam as the series
name the machine name should be oem-QATeam for the oem part, the USER-
QATEAM for the end-user install. instead it's oem-Virtualbox and USER-
Virtualbox. this bug could be VM/Vbox only.
