Title:
  unable to update with updatebeheer

Status in “update-manager” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
When trying to update with the "Updatebeheer" (this is the Dutch word for the menu item for "updating the installed software" in the dropdownmenu when clicking on the upper right corner of the screen) I constantly get a message that this updating fails. Different messages, which I also see in numerous internet sites where various people describe the same problem, give the indication that updating seems to be absolutely impossible. You have certainly received more complaints about this issue but I find nowhere any final solution to this problem. I run Ubuntu 12.04 and want to use this version for the next three years but I am afraid that, if updating is not carried out at regular intervals, the installation will become unstable. Up to now I have sometimes been able to carry out the update, but this time I am getting desperate. Changing the downloadserver did not give any positive result. In the terminal I gave several times the commands
  sudo rm /var/lib/apt/lists/* -vf
  and
  sudo apt-get update
but this did not solve the problem at all.
Because I use two different computers, both with Ubunu 21.04 installed, and both computers show the same problem, it is very unlikely that the hardware will be the bad guy.
I am really desperate now and I ask you kindly to investigate this problem. I am sure that you will not only help me with your solution but also many other users all over the world.
  Please revert!!
  Thanks for your help.
  Best regards,
