It's probably worth including the section of

lspci -vvn

for the card (or the whole lot if you can't easily separate it out).

Can you also explain what monitor you have it connected to and what res
you might expect the monitor to be able to do.

(I think the CLGD 5546 is the card emulated in most VM systems anyway!).

Bug description:
  Cirrus CLGD 5546 PCI graphics card
  Ubuntu 12.10

  
  With default settings, the resolution chosen by grub caused a large portion of the right and bottom of the grub menu and cli to be hidden off the screen.

  Forcing the resolution to 640x480 in /etc/default/grub and then
  running update-grub fixes the problem.

  This is an old card used in an old system, so I don't expect there to be much interest in fixing this bug. But I thought I would report it as Google fodder for the next unlucky soul to inherit one....
