The list of network drivers available to the installer is controlled by
the kernel packaging, specifically the file debian.master/d-i/modules
/nic-modules.

** Package changed: debian-installer (Ubuntu) => linux (Ubuntu)

** Tags added: bot-stop-nagging

Title:
Missing kernel modules for Mellanox ConnectX HCA Ethernet

Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  The initrd.gz found at install/netboot/ubuntu-
  installer/amd64/initrd.gz on the ubuntu-12.04-server-amd64.iso does
not contain the mlx4_en kernel module.

This is needed if your planning to use the Mellanox ConnectX HCA
  Ethernet during network install.
