Same here: I have downloaded the image of kubuntu 12.10 64 bit, burn it and it fails to boot
there is a blackscreen with underscore ticking forever just after the bios screen.

I don't know the exact config, what I know for sure, is that it is an
old 64 bit computer, dating back to 2007~ 2008 and it as an Asus
motherboard.

Bug description:
  After booting the install DVD there is a purple screen for some
  seconds and then there is only a black screen forever. Tested it with
  DVD and USB stick.
