Public bug reported:
I have found a very peculiar bug in binutils's ld tool: When building
evolution-data-server in an i386 virtual machine (I have reproduced it
in my saucy PPA with a binutils backport and in a VirtualBox machine
with both saucy and trusty), ld crashes at the following configure step:
checking if gcc static flag -static works...
This results in the following error:
Error in '/usr/bin/ld': corrupted double-linked list: 0x...
As already mentioned, it seems to only happen in virtual machines and only with i386 (amd64 is fine).
I have installed older binutils versions and it seems that (if I remember correctly) 2.23.90.20131116-1ubuntu1 and earlier are okay; 2.23.91.20131123-1ubuntu1 and later produce the error.
Steps to reproduce:
1. Get evolution-data-server's source package
2. Try to build it
3. It should crash in the line above
If I can provide more information, just let me know.
** Affects: binutils (Ubuntu)
Importance: Undecided
Status: New
