wer should have a session with the unity developers at the next uds.
imho a lot of stuff should be handled at that level.
we could even consider upstart events for the communication.

Title:
show notification when software is installed if software center is
closed before installation finishes
Status in “aptdaemon” package in Ubuntu:
Triaged
Bug description:
If a user closes the software-center interface while operations are
still in progress, a notification should be shown when all operations
are completed.
However, if the window has not been closed, a notification is not
needed and should not be shown.
<https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SoftwarePackageOperations#general>: "10. If
the requesting program is no longer running (for example, Ubuntu
Software Center which has since been closed), a notification bubble
should appear. The icon should be that of the software item. The title
should be of the form 'Installation complete', 'Reinstallation
complete', 'Update complete', 'Removal complete', or 'Purge complete'.
And the body text should be the item title."

window is in the background.
