That might work, but about the memory requirement, the machine does have 1GB RAM:

Bug description:
  The icon "Install Kunbuntu 13.04" shows a name in the status bar but
  then after a few seconds exits quietly with no warnings or error
  messages.  It should launch the graphical installer.  This is on the
  Kubuntu PPC live cd from 20130423.1

   * Installs on very small memory systems may fail to start or exit
  without completing with no error. It is recommended that swap be
