Your description seems unrelated to the actual content of the log files
which indicate that your system ran out of memory when trying to install
a package.  Additionally, I believe you are actually describing update-
notifier which can have an icon in the systray / taskbar.  The icon you
are describing indicates a failure in the package management system and
that failure is likely due to the dpkg error when trying to replace
apparmor.  You'll need to manually resolve the lack of memory issue by
closing applications so that the package installation process can
complete successfully.
