According to your logs you are using LVM, but there are no LVM
partitions shown. Can you post the output of sudo parted -l?

Title:
Ubuntu12.10 fails to install grub. Manually installing also fails.

Status in “grub-installer” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
May be closely related to bug #880766, but only 2 disks. Initially
12.04 resided on an SSD. I have tried updating that OS, a re-install,
and erasing the disk and doing a clean install. I have also fetched
boot-repair from ppa:yannubuntu and run it. This also fails: on reboot
I get to the opening screen (Ubuntu with a series of dots) and the
  install hangs.
