I have the same problem, but it's appear in different networks, with
some servers all work fine, with another session is hangs. I think it's
may be this issue http://www.snailbook.com/faq/mtu-mismatch.auto.html

Bug description:
  when i establish ssh connection via terminal (gnome-terminal , guake-
  terminal, vinegar ecc) it works until it is active. after short time
  inactive the terminal-session hangs and does not react anymore. First
  i thought it depends on gnome-terminal but it happens with all
  different terminals i tested.
