Hi Thomas,
the next overworking for Ubuntu12.04 installer will become public with
Ubuntu 12.04.2 which is planned to release on 2013-01-31.
This is a long time.
As workarround:
So, if you can not install any Ubuntu it may be recommend for you to use
the new Ubuntu12.10 which development goes to finish line.
The installer there has gotten much work and it is available now from:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QuantalQuetzal/TechnicalOverview/Beta2
as last beta before final
or daily updated:
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/
That should help you out to get a Ubuntu working.
