I haven't noticed any problems using Wubi or mounting NTFS from normal
dual boot (12.04.1) with Windows 8 - fast start is enabled.

The following is from a fresh Quantal install using Wubi:
bcbc at ubuntu:~$ ls -la /host/hiberfil.sys
-rwxrwxrwx 1 root root 5065179136 Sep 19 22:49 /host/hiberfil.sys
bcbc at ubuntu:~$ head -c 8 /host/hiberfil.sys | od -t x1

Bug description:

  HOW TO REPRODUCE:
  1) Boot into Windows8, use its "Restart" button
  2) From Ubuntu 12.04, try to mount the Windows8 partition:
  sudo mount -t ntfs-3g /dev/sdb8 /media/Windows8partition

  EXPECTED RESULT:
  The Windows partition is mounted in write/read mode.

  OBSERVED RESULT:
  The partition is not mounted. The output of the command is:
    Windows is hibernated, refused to mount.
    Failed to mount '/dev/sdb8': Opération non permise
    The NTFS partition is hibernated. Please resume and shutdown Windows
    properly, or mount the volume read-only with the 'ro' mount option, or
    mount the volume read-write with the 'remove_hiberfile' mount option.
    For example type on the command line:
              mount -t ntfs-3g -o remove_hiberfile /dev/sdb8 /media/Windows8partition

  Remarks:
  - this bug is not present in 11.10
  - this bug is severe as it makes Wubi fail on Win8 ( Bug #1042159 )
