Copying what I have just written about report 1043149 :

When the "fast restarting" of Windows 8 is enabled, the ntfs partitions
of internal disk (this means including non-Windows system partition) may
be left in an inconsistent state, and Windows 8 restarts using a saved
copy of the metadata (instead of what is actually on disk), leading to
potential data loss. The checks based on the hiberfil.sys cannot be
relied on, as this file only exists in the Windows system partition.
Also note that the "Shut down" button of Windows 8 does not show the
kind of restarting (fast or standard) which is triggered.

The only known way to avoid inconsistencies and data losses is to disable the fast restart and hibernation. See :

Title:
Files edited under Ubuntu corrupted when saving other files under
windows on a shared NTFS partition

Status in “ntfs-3g” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  Hi,

I have a dual boot Windows 8/Ubuntu 12 on a SSD drive and a shared
NTFS partition (for data storage) on another hard drive. I noticed
that some of the files I edited under Linux (they were Matlab source
code file) were corrupted. They actually looked like images that are
opened with a text editor. By curiosity, I changed the '.m' extension
to '.png', and I noticed they were screenshot of a video game I played
(in Windows) just after working on these files in Linux. The games I
played as well as the Matlab files were all on the shared NTFS
partition. Only recently edited Matlab files were corrupted

Now I do not dare opening my code files, fearing I might lose them
again if I boot with Windows.

A similar problem is described here:

  http://askubuntu.com/questions/187813/ntfs-corruption-files-created-
  in-linux-corrupted-when-windows-boots/190153#comment235864_190153

I don't know about the release as I am in office now. All what I can
say is that I am using Ubuntu 12 and it is regularly updated
