I interpret this to mean that you booted a 12.10 image on a 12.04.1
system and were not present the option to upgrade your existing install
to 12.10.  Is that correct?

Bug description:
  Attempting the upgrade case by using the installer image on the iso,
  the option to upgrade is grayed out and not selectable. Ubiquity
  should allow an upgrade using the installer image.
