Thank you for taking the time in making Ubuntu better, What versión of
Ubuntu are you running? since the problem seems to be integration with
some apps, please indicate if they are not the versions in the
repository. Please do take into consideration that a new version of GIMP
(2.8) is available in Ubuntu 12.10 Beta and it would be good to test
further the issues you present.

  Unity global menu missing on apps with more than one window

Status in “ubuntu-meta” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  In applications with more than one window (like Gimp) the global menu
  is missing on any but the main window. If some other window (like a
  toolbox) is active, the global menu and also the HUD are missing. Also
  the main window becomes inactive after doing some operations in Gimp
  (e.g. sharpen the picture). This way it is very cumbersome to work
  with Gimp.
