The fans running full speed also occurs occasionally when I power off
the computer.

Title:
Entering suspend sometimes causes fans to go full speed
Status in “acpid” package in Ubuntu:
New
Bug description:
Upon entering suspend mode, sometimes the fan will go full speed. It
could be the case fan, or the CPU fan. It happens about half the
time. The fan will remain at full speed while in suspend until the
system is resumed and then it will work normally.
Fan speed is controlled by the BIOS. My motherboard is an Intel
DH77DF.
