What you've actually done, by modifying /etc/fstab, is disable the
filesystem check for your root partition. It would be helpful if you
were to re-enable the filesystem check and boot without 'splash quiet'
so that you can see detailed messages regarding the error. Then take a
picture of that error and the picture to this bug report. Thanks in
advance!

Title:
ubiquity can't mount / on xfs
Status in “xfsprogs” package in Ubuntu:
Incomplete
Bug description:
i booted to a livecd, and installed lubuntu on a xfs disk by using the manual partitioner.
I used 1 xfs partition to mount /
The operation seemed to compelete successfully, but upon rebooting, all i could see was an error about "serious erorrs were found while checking the disk drive for /."
I managed to muck around in the fstab and fix the /etc/fstab file and the error went away.
I did this by changing the last column in the line that mounts / from 1 to 0
to fix this bug, it should not write to the fstab incorrectly.
