Actually this seems like a hardware error.  Notice the following from
UbiquitySyslog:

Bug description:
  Somewhere short after creating the user the installer crashed. I saw
  it segfault in an earlier attempt, though the stacktrace will give way
  more clues. No special parameters or anything, no weird behaviour
  while running ubiquity.
