Mhh,
there are some known issues with installing in VMWare. In the past they
where Python based(transition from2.x to 3.x), but I can see this here.

Title:
Inactive window
Status in “ubiquity” package in Ubuntu:
Incomplete
Bug description:
When an application is opened on 12.10 running on VMWare Player, the opened window stays inactive.
Window is unmovable, has no close, restore or minimize/maximize buttons. Rather, these buttons appear along the task bar beside window name. The window becomes active only when the minimize button on the task bar is clicked, which then becomes movable with buttons intact. The window can be closed or restored even with the buttons on the task bar. Please check the screen shots attached for clarity.
