I believe you can close this. As I recall, the issue was resolved in a
later release. At any rate, I don't even recall the hardware I was using
at the time. I don't recall this being an issue for at least the last 3
years.

Title:
Suspend loop when on battery power
Status in “acpi-support” package in Ubuntu:
Incomplete
Bug description:
Ubuntu 8.04 (both default Ubuntu Gnome and Kubuntu KDE 3.5 desktop environments installed)
2.6.24-16-generic
Summary-
System goes into continuous suspend loop when resuming on battery power, if power management idle suspend timer has been exceeded.
Within both Ubuntu and Kubuntu, I have power management rules in place
that if the system is idle for more than 10 minutes, the machine will
automatically suspend. There is no idle suspend rule for A/C power.
When resuming after suspend, machine goes into suspend loop if still
on battery power.
Expected Result--
The system should resume normally whether on A/C or battery power, but if more than 10 minutes passes in suspend, the system goes into a loop when on battery power. Normal resumption only takes places after plugging the machine into A/C power, or doing a hard power down.
I suspect that this is an issue with the power management rules, as
the laptop will resume normally if on battery power and the idle
suspend timeout period has not been exceeded (If I resume in less than
10 minutes).
The loop result occurs as long as 10 minutes of idle time has passed
on battery power, regardless of whether the system is automatically
suspended or I suspend it.
