Does your package manager show any error messages when it crashes?

If the problems are caused by interrupting an installation, see if running following commands help:
sudo dpkg --configure -a
sudo apt-get -f install
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade

Anyways, we need to see some log files or error messages before we can
properly help you. So please attach the errors and warnings printed by
the commands above to this bug report.
